Delineate seeks an experienced EMT or paramedic to serve as a subject matter consultant on a mixed-methods research project. The consultant will bring frontline EMS expertise to translate quantitative survey results into qualitative follow-up research, support the conduct of interviews, and contribute to interpreting qualitative data.
This role is well suited for someone who understands the realities of prehospital care and wants to apply that knowledge to research that could inform practice, policy, and workforce support.

Key Responsibilities
Translating Quantitative Survey Findings into Qualitative Inquiry
- Review quantitative survey results with the research team and help identify findings that warrant deeper exploration.
- Contribute to the development of a structured interview guide, ensuring questions use appropriate terminology, reflect real field conditions, and are likely to elicit candid responses.
- Recommend revisions to interview questions based on flow, clarity, and relevance.
Supporting Interviews
- Co-facilitate or lead interviews, using peer credibility to build rapport while maintaining a neutral research stance.
- Take field notes and debrief with the research team after interviews to capture early impressions.
Qualitative Analysis and Interpretation
- Participate in team consensus discussions.
- Help interpret jargon, abbreviations, protocols, and implied meanings in participant responses.
- Support integration of qualitative themes with the original survey findings, identifying where interviews confirm, expand on, or contradict the quantitative results.
- Review draft findings, reports, and presentations for accuracy and relevance to the EMS field.
Research Ethics and Data Integrity
- Maintain strict confidentiality of participant identities and data.
- Disclose potential conflicts of interest, such as existing professional relationships with participants or agencies.
Required Qualifications
- Current EMT or paramedic certification/licensure.
- At least 3 - 5 years of field experience in prehospital emergency care.
- Strong interpersonal and active listening skills, with the ability to ask open-ended questions and remain nonjudgmental.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Comfort working collaboratively with researchers from non-clinical backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
- Paramedic-level certification and/or experience in supervisory, training officer, QA/QI, or EMS education roles.
- Experience across multiple service models, such as fire-based, hospital-based, private, volunteer, rural, and urban EMS.
- Prior involvement in research, program evaluation, or quality improvement projects.
